Egenera Marks Milestone With New Software Strategy, Product Innovation and Expanded Partnerships

Converged Infrastructure Pioneer Posts Record First Quarter Profit on Strong Revenue Growth

MARLBORO, MA--(Marketwire - May 11, 2010) - Egenera, the company that developed the first converged infrastructure solution a decade ago, today reported a record net profit on strong revenue growth for the first quarter ended on March 31. The increase was driven by vigorous sales of PAN Manager® Software by Egenera® and productive OEM and reseller partnerships. Under the leadership of new president and CEO, Pete Manca, Egenera is leveraging the new cross-platform, flexible characteristics of PAN Manager Software to expand alliances and increase advantages over competing proprietary unified computing offerings.

PAN Manager Software now has 10 years of proven performance in production environments and is deployed in more than 1,600 data centers across the globe, surpassing Cisco and IBM in converged infrastructure experience, innovation and installed base.

Egenera was founded in May 2000 by a former Goldman Sachs CTO whose vision was to vastly improve data center infrastructure and management. The complexity, labor-intensive management and brittle architecture that typified data centers at the start of the new millennium remain pervasive. However, Egenera has simplified IT operations and infrastructure and reduced capital and operating expenses for more than 400 customers worldwide. These results were achieved by creating a converged infrastructure: an integration of I/O virtualization, converged networking, automated storage connectivity and software provisioning that transforms standard servers and Ethernet infrastructure into pooled server, I/O and network resources -- regardless of software workloads. Egenera products now routinely provide integrated dynamic capacity, high availability and disaster recovery to leading public sector, financial services and managed services organizations globally.

PAN Manager Software has significant performance and cost advantages over single-platform converged infrastructure solutions such Cisco UCS which often require entirely new networking infrastructure, blade management hardware and multiple third-party software components to deliver equivalent high availability and disaster recovery. Similarly, multi-vendor amalgamations such as Vblock involve complex, point-product integration and lengthy deployment cycles. Egenera rejects such vendor lock-in. The company's commitment to multi-platform support and low-cost open standards enables customers to maximize existing IT infrastructure.

"Frankly, Egenera was ahead of the market. When we were founded, server blades with virtual I/O and a common network fabric didn't exist. We had to manufacture them. Commodity servers and other hardware have since been developed. We've evolved our business model and development efforts accordingly," said Pete Manca, president and CEO, Egenera. "PAN Manager is our key to capturing more market share and accelerating revenue growth. We've engineered our converged infrastructure to run on commodity hardware, rapidly delivering cost-savings and performance while protecting existing infrastructure investment. This inherent flexibility also makes PAN Manager the ideal OEM option for hardware vendors and value-added resellers (VARs) who want to leapfrog Cisco."
