Over $2000 Raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by the Students, Faculty and Staff of Stanbridge College

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - May 26, 2010) - Stanbridge College students, faculty and staff strived together to raise over $2000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) relies on the support of individuals and corporations to fund its initiatives. Stanbridge College has helped contribute to the more than $600 million raised and invested in research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma since the organizations creation in 1954.

Every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every ten minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. These statistics represent nearly 146 people each day or more than six people every hour. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.

An estimated 139,860 people in the United States will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2009. New cases of leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma account for 9.5 percent of the 1,479,350 new cancer cases diagnosed in the United States this year.
