Fwix Begins Indexing the Local Web

New Technology Allows Users and Partners to Consume Local Information Beyond News

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 3, 2010) -  Fwix, the local information company, today launched the first-ever hyperlocal and local information index. Fwix is the fastest-growing local news network, as well as a top-rated iPhone and iPad news app for more than two hundred markets in the English-speaking world. With today's launch, Fwix expands its content to include not only real-time local and hyperlocal news, but crime information, real estate, tweets, check-ins, deals and more.

The Fwix Local Index goes beyond the great, but limited, content silos such as real estate, crime, business listings and social activity from Twitter, Foursquare or Gowalla into one, streamlined, real-time index, upon which anyone can build -- as an API -- or publish, as a widget on any site. The content is customizable for developers, businesses and publishers.

"This is the next step in real-time local information," said Darian Shirazi, Fwix CEO and founder. "Just as Google indexed the Web by keywords and link authority, we're looking to index the Web by geographic location. We want to build a timeline of information for every latitude and longitude on the planet and allow people to make sense of this information."

The launch comes shortly after Fwix launched its new social site and top-rated iPad app, as well as closing a deal with The New York Times Company to deliver local and hyperlocal content across the publisher's properties.
