California Law & Order Endorses Steve Cooley for Attorney General

LOS ANGELES, July 14, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Momentum is growing as the California Law and Order Independent Expenditure Committee (CA L&O), comprised of the membership of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) and the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), joined other public safety organizations in endorsing Steve Cooley, the Los Angeles County District Attorney, for California Attorney General. CA L&O represents over 20,000 rank-and-file police officers throughout Los Angeles today.

Last week, the California Law and Order Independent Expenditure Committee, which is a non-partisan organization, conducted substantive and impartial interviews with both candidates for Attorney General. The candidates were questioned about their views on protecting and enhancing the law enforcement profession so police officers, deputies, Corrections, detectives, and investigators can do their job to protect the residents of the state. In its first endorsement announcement in the 2010 state elections, the Political Action Committee (PAC) committed to a voter outreach campaign and member mobilization in support of Cooley's election.

"From supporting the death penalty to fighting corruption, Steve Cooley has been a champion for the people of Los Angeles County," said Scott Rate, Co-Chair of CA L&O and a Director with the Los Angeles Police Protective League. "We will work tirelessly to help elect Steve Cooley as our next Attorney General."

Citing Cooley's record as a lifelong law enforcement leader, the PAC praised Cooley for fighting for issues important to California police officers, including his pursuit of public use of DNA and other new techniques in solving so-called "cold cases," efforts to bring justice to the families of murder victims and aggressive prosecution of fraud and gang cases.

"After interviewing both candidates, Steve Cooley was the clear choice to receive our endorsement," said Steve Remige, Co-Chair of CA L&O and President of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs. "Steve Cooley has stood strong with law enforcement and correctional officers throughout California and always supported the death penalty for people who murder police officers. Because of that long-term support of fighting for our issues and being a partner with law enforcement, we proudly endorse Steve Cooley."
