Visitors Return to Theme Building Observation Deck at Los Angeles International Airport

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials report the number of visitors to the Theme Building Observation Deck totaled 1,485 for the first month since its July reopening on weekends only. The figure reflects renewed interest in an airport attraction that has been missing since its closure due to security reasons on September 11, 2001. Prior to its closure nearly 3,000 people monthly visited the deck when it was open daily.   The Observation Deck provides 360-degree views of the airport.

The Observation Deck is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays with new security measures in place, including inspection of personal belongings before visitors enter the nonstop elevator for the quick ride up. There is no time limit for how long visitors may stay on the deck. The Observation Deck opened following completion of a three-year, $12.3-million renovation for a new stucco system and seismic retrofit.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the seventh busiest airport in the world, offering more than 565 daily flights to 81 destinations in the U.S. and over 1,000 weekly nonstop flights to 66 international destinations on over 75 carriers.
