CyberShift Survey Shows Growing Trend of Mobile Employees Working Across Multiple States

Companies Face New Workforce Management Challenges Due to Increase in Mobile Workers

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - October 13, 2010) -  CyberShift, a global provider of workforce management and expense management software and services, today shared results from its 2010 CyberShift Trendline Survey, including an increasing trend of employees assigned to work in multiple states. The survey, which explored the opinions of more than 1,200 American Payroll Association (APA) members on topics ranging from time and attendance challenges to the use of contingent workers, found that 39.1 percent of respondents' companies have employees working in multiple states.

With the increasing number of multi-state workers and the introduction of the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Fairness and Simplification Act [H.R. 2110], companies will be faced with even more complex requirements and challenges to address the needs of their growing mobile workforces. Enterprise-class solutions for expense and workforce management can help corporations provide select, critical business applications to on-the-go workers in a consistent, secure and robust manner.

Morné P. Swart, CyberShift's vice president of product management, said, "The trend toward worker mobility promises to continue. To truly empower their mobile workforces, companies have to go beyond simply delivering Internet and email access on the road. Mobile workers need to be able to access two of their most commonly required business applications -- expense reporting and time and attendance functions. Providing these essential applications to mobile workers can ensure greater time, attendance, scheduling and business expense accuracy, enabling optimized business performance and improved cost controls."

Additional results from the Trendline survey, which is included in the August / September issue of the APA's PAYTECH magazine, showed that payroll professionals find it challenging to capture accurate and timely data for absence, leave, vacation and payroll adjustments. Sophisticated automated solutions that integrate time and labor management, employee scheduling and expense management functionality can dramatically increase employee productivity and satisfaction, ultimately improving corporate performance.

The APA members who responded to the Trendline survey varied greatly in company size as well as industry type. Nearly 32 percent of respondents work at organizations employing less than 500 people; 18.1 percent work at organizations with 500 to 1,000 people; 28.8 percent work at organizations with 1,001 to 5,000 people; 9.0 percent work at organizations with 5,001 to 10,000 people; and 12.1 percent work at organizations with more than 10,000 people. More than 16 percent of the payroll professionals surveyed represented the manufacturing sector, with the healthcare (14.3 percent), not-for-profit (7.1 percent), local government (6.1 percent) and retail (4.9 percent) sectors rounding out the top five responding industries.
