New Cloud Survey: More Than 90 Percent of Respondents Confident of Cloud's Ability to Maintain Compliance of Core Applications

NEWTOWN, PA--(Marketwire - October 27, 2010) - Freedom OSS, a leader in Integrated Cloud Service Management (ICSM), today announced the results of an internal cloud computing customer survey. Referred to as the Cloud IQ Quiz, 74 respondents from leading enterprise organizations answered general questions pertaining to cloud environments in an attempt to gauge the acceptance of "myths" as realities and help dissipate the common notion that security is not a present function of today's cloud computing deployments.

Freedom OSS is a market leader for bringing cloud computing capabilities to the enterprise. With its recently announced vNOC 2.0 offering, Freedom OSS provides a 'Stairway to the Cloud'™ for customers, delivering encryption of data at rest and in transit, key and password management, ticket-system integration and others.

Respondents of the Cloud IQ Quiz felt very comfortable with the secure nature of cloud computing and indicated that their cloud security teams fully understood its risks. Almost 70 percent responded that their security teams would allow companies to broadly use external public clouds. Interestingly enough, despite the complexities associated with cloud computing, respondents said they fully understood the differences associated with public and private clouds -- with 86 percent reporting that both maintain distinct benefits.

Additional findings included:

  • All respondents fully understanding the dynamic ability of cloud computing infrastructures to maintain compliance with core standards such as HIPAA, FISMA, PCI, and SOX
  • More than 90 percent of respondents felt confident of cloud computing's ability to maintain compliance of core applications
  • Users overwhelmingly did not believe management tools such Freedom OSS vNOC 2.0 were necessary for effective cloud management
  • More than 75 percent of respondents felt such tools were unnecessary to maintain control of this highly dynamic infrastructure

Specific to Amazon (Freedom OSS's cloud partner) cloud services, most respondents (62 percent) were fully confident that, despite the flexibility of cloud infrastructures, Amazon Web Services (AWS) still maintained full control in the ability to handle any crisis or problems. Users also felt Amazon's customer service was for the most part flexible, with almost 70 percent reporting of Amazon's dynamic ability to provision servers by simply issuing an API and using API-enabled tools.

"As companies continue to grow and evolve their IT infrastructures, many are struggling with pathways to move from physical to virtual cloud infrastructures," said Joel Davne, president, Freedom OSS. "Successfully migrating to this flexible model requires a full understanding of the cloud environment including its capabilities and roadblocks. That's why a strong IQ of the cloud marketplace is so vital. Based on our survey results, it's clear that not only were respondents savvy about what this model has to offer, but they were very confident in its ability to help them achieve their business goals in a secure -- compliant -- environment."
