Nalco Co-Sponsors United Nations Conference Focusing on Critical Water Issues

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Nov. 11, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Representatives from the private sector, government, civil society, and other interests are gathering in Cape Town from Nov. 15-17 for the CEO Water Mandate's sixth working conference. The event will focus on three areas: Water Policy Engagement, Water and Human Rights and Water Transparency and Reporting.

During the conference the final Guide to Responsible Corporate Engagement in Water Public Policy will be released to serve as a roadmap for companies to help them understand the dos and don'ts of their interactions with governments and neighbors in developing and responding to water-related public policies. Attendees will also discuss the development of qualitative water-use reporting standards.

The CEO Water Mandate convenes two working conferences per year to bring corporate water experts and practitioners together with a range of key stakeholders and partners, including civil society organizations, specialized water institutes, UN agencies, public authorities, and other interests.

Nalco (NYSE:NLC), is one of five CEO Water Mandate endorsing companies sponsoring the gathering that will address water scarcity, quality and availability both in southern Africa and as a global challenge. Nalco Africa, based in Johannesburg, is Nalco's joint venture in association with Protea Chemicals, a division of the Omnia Group.
