LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX), and Columbia Pictures announce that the action-comedy The Green Hornet will be released to digital IMAX® theatres in the immersive IMAX® 3D format this Friday, January 14th. The film will open on 172 IMAX screens domestically, simultaneously with its North American wide release. The film will also open on at least 100 IMAX screens internationally, 13 of which will open this Friday, with the other runs debuting over the following weeks. Additional international playdates are expected to be booked in the coming days.
The Green Hornet: An IMAX 3D Experience has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology for presentation in IMAX 3D. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique immersive environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
About The Green Hornet:
In the 3D action-comedy The Green Hornet, Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the son of LA's most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene – until his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father's more industrious and inventive employees, Kato (Jay Chou), they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. To get close to the criminals, they come up with the perfect cover: they'll pose as criminals themselves.
Protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets. Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, Black Beauty, an indestructible car equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato's clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt's new secretary, Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz), they begin hunting down the man who controls LA's gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz). But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all.
The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour with Tom Wilkinson and Cameron Diaz.
The film is directed by Michel Gondry. The screenplay is by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, based upon "The Green Hornet" radio series created by George W. Trendle. The film is produced by Neal H. Moritz. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Michael Grillo, Ori Marmur and George W. Trendle Jr. are the executive producers.
Opening nationwide in theatres and IMAX, the film will be presented in 3D and distributed by Columbia Pictures.
The film has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for sequences of violent action, language, sensuality and drug content.
