Egyptian American High School Students to Examine Crisis With Other New York City School Students

Students Belong to Global Kids Afterschool Program in New York City Schools


NEW YORK, Feb. 3, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The eyes of the world are riveted on the protests in Egypt as President Hosni Mubarak faces more calls to relinquish the presidency. The news especially affects New York City high school students who have family and cultural ties to Egypt.

A group of these students take part in Global Kids—the premier non-profit educational organization for global learning and youth development. Global Kids works to ensure that urban youth have the knowledge, skills, experiences and values they need to succeed in school, participate effectively in the democratic process, and achieve leadership in their communities and on the global stage.

Global Kids operates in-school and out-of-school time programs in New York City and Washington, D.C. public schools and at its headquarters. On Friday a diverse group of Global Kids students will meet to learn more about the recent events in Egypt and discover how they impact all Americans.

  Activities will include: Remarks from Egyptian nationals now living in New York City, interactive lessons about the power of persuasion and negotiation, and screening and discussion of protest footage.
