Photo Release -- Microsemi Launches Fifth-Generation Auto Mode 4-port Power-over-Ethernet Power Source Equipment Manager

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor technology aimed at powering a smart, secure, connected world, today announced the PD69104A, an Auto Mode 4-port Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Power Source Equipment (PSE) Manager targeted at small and medium business (SMB) and small office/home office (SOHO) PoE applications.

The PD69104A device is the most integrated and energy efficient 4-port PoE solution in the market. It works completely autonomously with no need for a host processor or MCU-based system management, allowing switch and router vendors to add PoE capabilities to their systems with very minimal to no software development required. Although targeted at small systems, the PD69104A has an easy-to-use UART and I2C host interfaces that enable it to be used in larger systems where system-wide power management is performed by the host processor.

"Our revamped product line, expanded by the PD69104A, enables customers to add PoE+ in an energy-efficient and cost effective manner to new applications such as home gateways and small business routers," said Daniel Feldman, Director of PoE Marketing in Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group. "The combination of dynamic power management and emergency power management into a 4-port product allows PSE vendors to create products with extremely small power supplies, allowing end-users to configure their systems in the field according to the specific requirements of the powered devices."

Key Features

  • Built-in 0.3 Ohm MOSFETs
  • Internal DC/DC regulator
  • Integrated dynamic power management for up to 4 ports
  • Emergency power management with 3 power good inputs
  • Detects all pre-standard PoE devices
  • Direct LED driving for 4 ports and a PoE MAX
  • Complete 4 port PoE solution with only 20 components
  • UART and I2C host interfaces
  • Complete port monitoring for voltage, current, power and temperature
  • <1.2 W total system power dissipation in IEEE802.3at-2009 mode
  • <0.52 W total system power dissipation in IEE802.3af-2003 mode

"The PD69104A product offers customers building smaller products the same level of performance our recently announced PD69108 PSE PoE Manager brings to switches with 8-ports and above," said Paul Pickle, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group. "We leveraged the technology used in previously released PoE devices to design the PD69104A and provide a more complete product portfolio to vendors developing PoE PSEs from 1 port to 96 ports."

Product Availability

The PD69104A device is sampling now and will be in volume production in Q2 2011. Datasheets, application notes, whitepapers and other information are available on Microsemi's website at http://www.microsemi.com.
