Mariner's Choice Announces MUNOX(R) Approval for Use in Trinidad and Tobago

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mariner's Choice International, Inc. (Pink Sheets:MCII), a North American manufacturer of an extensive line of ecologically-safe products for the marine and other industry segments, today announced that MUNOX® for petroleum and petrochemical remediation has now been listed as approved for use with the Ministry of Environment and Energy Affairs (MEEA) of Trinidad and Tobago.

Unlike most of the English-speaking Caribbean countries that rely on tourism as their primary industry, Trinidad and Tobago's economy is driven by petroleum and petrochemicals, with tourism to a lesser degree. Trinidad and Tobago is a leading producer of oil and gas, which accounts for approximately 40% of its GDP, and 80% of exports.  The country, therefore, is vulnerable to oil spills and contamination of its land, rivers and territorial waters.

It has been reported that in the past five years, there have been in excess of 200 spills of more than 1,000 liters of oil and hazardous substances.  The Trinidad and Tobago National Oil Spill Contingency Plan (NOSCP) was first developed in 1977.  Although the country has not had any major environmental incidents with respect to their deepwater drilling activities, in July 2010 the MEEA launched the Hydrocarbon and Chemical Spill Contingency Plan to take proactive steps to secure its marine environment in the context of deepwater drilling.

"Having MUNOX® on the MEEA approved list for use in Trinidad and Tobago gives us the opportunity to supply the product for remediation and reclamation of contaminated properties.  We are working closely with one of our partners, who has already made a preliminary introduction of the product to the islands and has received initial interest.  The route to market would be through distributors, contractors and approved vendors to the oil refineries.  We intend to move quickly to activate sales of MUNOX in Trinidad and Tobago," stated Mariner's Choice President & CEO Amie Hingston.
