Egenera Posts Best Financial Year in Company's History

Software Orders Double Quarter-Over-Quarter as Enterprises Seek to Better Manage Data Center in the Cloud

MARLBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - February 16, 2011) - Egenera Inc., the industry's only open converged infrastructure and unified computing solution, today announced it has completed its best financial year on record. Egenera delivered four consecutive quarters of profitability in 2010, with software orders doubling quarter-over-quarter, as enterprises sought out Egenera's PAN Manager to reliably and quickly provision and manage cloud infrastructure.

Egenera's PAN Manager software enables customers deploying unified computing infrastructure to integrate with their choice of platform and storage vendors, preventing vendor lock-in while maintaining massive efficiencies and low total cost of ownership. The company has seen tremendous growth since its transition two years ago to a software-focused business, with software customers tripling in 2010. Egenera's software sales are up 200% year-over-year, with the average PAN Manager order size doubling during that timeframe.

In 2010, Egenera continued its quest to expand supported platforms and distribution for PAN Manager. The company added Fujitsu to its list of supported hardware vendors, joining Dell and Egenera's own BladeFrame® offering. Egenera also launched a global partner program, providing resellers with an entry into the growing unified computing market. The company signed several resellers to is Egenera Partner Network in Q4, including Panasonic, as the exclusive distributor for PAN Manager in the Japanese market.

"With the commoditization of blade servers, Egenera has been able to narrow its focus to providing best-in-class converged infrastructure software to run on any hardware," said Pete Manca, CEO of Egenera. "We expect to grow at an even faster rate in 2011, as enterprises look to PAN Manager to create an agile and robust environment for the data center, while preserving customer choice and investments."

According to Gartner, 30% of the world's top 2000 companies will use some form of converged infrastructure/unified computing by 2012. Thomas Weisel Partners expects sales of converged data center solutions to rise from $1 billion in 2010 to $15 billion by 2014, and Egenera puts the size of the converged infrastructure market it serves -- enterprise class, mission-critical and business-critical applications, focusing on blade servers and x86 hardware architectures -- at $5 to $10 billion.
