Help Spring Pets From Overcrowded Shelters During PETCO's National Adoption Weekend

Hills Science Diet and PETCO Partner to Host the National Adoption Weekend March 12-13 to Kick Off the PETCO Foundation's Annual "Spring A Pet" Fundraiser

LONDON, March 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

WHAT: A shocking 5-7 million animals enter shelters every year. In order to decrease this statistic and match animal lovers with new companions, PETCO is hosting a National Adoption Weekend March 12-13, 2011. New pet parents can receive tips on how to care for their pets from PETCO representatives, learn about local pet adoption efforts and most importantly, meet adoptable pets. Those who adopt a pet during the National Adoption Weekend will receive one free small bag of any Hill's Science Diet Dry or Nature's Best dog or cat food. If you choose to adopt a cat during National Adoption Weekend, you will receive one free 16 lb. jug of PETCO Cat Litter. Plus, all pet parents who adopt enjoy additional savings from PETCO's Think Adoption First Care and Savings program. Ask a store associate for details.

Along with National Adoption Weekend, PETCO will celebrate the launch of the PETCO Foundation's "Spring A Pet" fundraiser. PETCO customers can purchase "Spring A Pet" donation cards in the amounts of $5, $10 and $20 at all PETCO stores, as well as online. Last year, the "Spring A Pet" fundraiser raised $2 million for shelters across the nation.  The 2011 event lasts until April 10, 2011. The PETCO Foundation hopes to raise $2.4 million for local adoption shelter and rescue groups.
