Anita Borg Institute Unveils Roster of Speakers Participating in Top Company for Technical Women Workshop

Representatives From Tech Industry Leaders to Address Best Practices on Recruiting, Retaining and Advancing Technical Women

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - March 21, 2011) - The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) announced today the speakers and topics for the inaugural Anita Borg Top Company for Technical Women Workshop to be held on May 19, 2011 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, California. The event will feature speakers from top technical industry leaders including Top Company for Technical Women award winner IBM, Cisco, Symantec, Intel, Intuit, CA Technologies, Microsoft Research and SAP.

"High-technology companies today are faced with critical talent challenges. Despite the benefits of diversity on innovation, women are few in technical roles and are more likely to be leaving companies than their male counterparts. There is also a dearth of women at the top in technical roles," said Caroline Simard, Vice President of Research and Executive Programs for the Anita Borg Institute. "Faced with these critical challenges, companies are looking for solutions to recruit, retain, and advance women in technology. The Top Company workshop will feature solutions tied to demonstrated outcomes in increasing the representation of technical women, and in their retention and advancement."

Speakers will share their strategies for:

  • Hiring top female technical talent despite the limited supply
  • Retaining technical women through best practices such as mentoring and innovative work-life programs
  • Advancing women to Fellow positions
  • Increasing the representation of technical women in senior and executive roles
  • Managing change that creates an inclusive culture for women in technology
  • Breaking barriers to implementing cultural change
