ACWA to Release Framework on Groundwater Management

April 4 Briefing, Press Call Planned to Unveil New Policy Document


SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - March 31, 2011) - The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) is set to release a major policy document on groundwater management at a briefing Monday, April 4, in Sacramento. The briefing, set for 9:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento, will feature an overview and remarks by local and state water managers, including ACWA Executive Director Timothy Quinn and California Department of Water Resources Director Mark Cowin.

"Sustainability from the Ground Up: A Framework for Groundwater Management in California" offers an in-depth look at current groundwater management efforts and recommends proactive steps to advance sustainable management at a time when California is relying more than ever on the resource in light of constraints on surface water deliveries.

Developed over 18 months by a task force of local groundwater managers from throughout the state, the Framework highlights examples of successful local groundwater management, identifies impediments to local success, and recommends policies and actions to help achieve sustainable outcomes.
