LOS ANGELES, April 4, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the family-friendly documentary adventure Born to be Wild 3D will be released exclusively to IMAX® theatres on Friday, April 8th. The film follows these young orphaned elephants and orangutans on the trip of a lifetime, from birth to their rebirth into the wild. This miraculous journey of second chances will transport moviegoers around the world to the far reaches of Kenya and Borneo and will inspire them to take action and save Earth's precious creatures.
The film will open on 207 IMAX screens domestically and on at least 18 IMAX screens internationally, with six screens releasing day-and-date. Additional international playdates are expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
Born to be Wild 3D was stunningly captured using IMAX 3D cameras and has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology for presentation in IMAX 3D and 2D. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique immersive environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
About Born to be Wild 3D:
Narrated by Academy-Award® winner Morgan Freeman, Born to be Wild 3D is an inspiring story of love, dedication and the remarkable bond between humans and animals. This film documents orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them—saving endangered species one life at a time. Born to be Wild 3D is a heartwarming adventure transporting moviegoers into the lush rainforests of Borneo with world-renowned primatologist Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas, and across the rugged Kenyan savannah with celebrated elephant authority Dame Daphne M. Sheldrick, as they and their teams rescue, rehabilitate and return these incredible animals back to the wild.
Born to be Wild 3D is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and IMAX Filmed Entertainment. The film is directed by David Lickley and written and produced by Drew Fellman. The behind-the-scenes team includes supervising line producer Diane Roberts, associate producer Jill Ferguson, director of photography David Douglas and editor Beth Spiegel.
