New market makers for UK power futures contracts

Lysaker, 13 April 2011

NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe is pleased to announce that it has signed up two market makers for UK power futures contracts.

The new market makers are EDF Trading Ltd. and RWE Supply & Trading GmbH.

“We recognise the importance of having a liquid UK power market and are pleased to be one of the first market makers on this platform,” said John Grey, Senior Trader, UK Power at EDF Trading.

“We are very excited to be supporting financial futures, and to see day-ahead N2EX auction volumes increasing. We see the presence of a financially-settled market as a major step towards attracting new entrants to the UK power market. Combined with the launch of the spot market, we congratulate NASDAQ OMX on delivery of the integrated market platform requested by the FOA Power Trading Forum,” said Paul Beynon, Vice President, UK Power Trading at RWE Trading.

“I am very happy that two such major participants have signed up as market makers for the NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe’s UK power futures. EDF Trading and RWE Supply & Trading thus show a commitment to this market which will contribute to increasing volumes and a liquid and transparent market,” said Geir Reigstad, Senior Vice President, NASDAQ OMX Commodities.

The agreements are effective from 13 April, 2011.
