The John Marshall Law School Combined J.D./LL.M. Degree Program Saves Time and Tuition While Enhancing Job Prospects

J.D. Students Can Specialize in Employee Benefits, Information Technology and Privacy Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Business and Trade Law, Real Estate Law and Tax Law

CHICAGO, April 20, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The John Marshall Law School's combined J.D./LL.M. law degree program saves students time and money while it enhances their job prospects. The accelerated law degree increases student expertise and provides graduates a competitive advantage by allowing them to specialize in a particular area of law.

By taking J.D. and LL.M. courses concurrently, both law degrees can be completed in less time than if the degrees were pursued separately. That can save a law student a considerable amount of tuition. In the J.D. program, students must complete 90 credit hours. The joint degree program allows qualified students to count ten of those hours as credits needed to complete the 24-credit-hour LL.M. program.

Through its Centers for Excellence, The John Marshall Law School in Chicago offers the largest selection of graduate law programs in the Midwest. John Marshall is the only law school in the country offering an LL.M. degree in employee benefits, and it has one of the oldest tax law programs. John Marshall has been a leader in intellectual property law for more than 70 years, and it offered the first, and now the most comprehensive, curriculum in information technology and privacy law. The real estate law program helps attorneys move into the realm of commercial and LEED-certified deals, and the international law curriculum tracks cover both customs and trade law or international banking and finance.

"Today's law school students are increasingly looking for ways to better differentiate themselves. Our recognized graduate law programs consistently demonstrate the strength of specializing to build a student's marketability," says Kathryn Kennedy, associate dean for Advanced Studies and Research and director of the law school's Center for Tax Law and Employee Benefits.
