A Cycling Poker Ride Presented by Habitat for Humanity of Martin County's Women Build Guild


FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 27, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BankAtlantic, Florida's Most Convenient Bank, announced today that it will participate in the 2011 Power Ride, a cycling poker ride presented by Habitat for Humanity of Martin County's Women Build Guild.

Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women and girls to have fun and make a difference by building homes and communities. Thousands of houses have been built by women crews around the world – more than 1,000 have taken place since Women Build's official creation in 1998. Each year hundreds more homes are added as affiliates, donors and sponsors discover the impact of women volunteers and their resources.

The 2011 Power Ride presented by Habitat for Humanity of Martin County's Women Build Guild will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011. All rides will start and finish at the Village Bike Shop, 8771 S.E. Bridge Road, Hobe Sound, Florida. 

The start times are:

  • 62-mile "Hammer Down" Ride: 7 a.m.
  • 35-mile "Flying Trusses" Ride: 8 a.m.
  • 10-mile "Building Blocks" Family Fun Ride: 9 a.m.

All three routes can be viewed on the Habitat for Humanity of Martin County website at http://www.habitatmartin.org/index.php?main=72&nav=195. Individual registration is $50 and children 17 and under is $20. Proceeds benefit the 2011 Women Build home. All participants will receive a poker hand and a Power Ride T-shirt. Two Trek beach cruisers will awarded to the best poker hand. There will also be a raffle for a 22 inch flat screen television. Additional scheduled activities include:

  • At 8:15 a.m. the Martin County Sheriff's Office will conduct a bicycle safety training seminar.
  • At 10:00 a.m. Lowe's will conduct their Kids Build clinic.
  • The Habitat Restore truck will be at the event throughout the day accepting donations of home goods and appliances.
