The Nutro Company Celebrates Second Annual ROOM TO RUN(TM) Dog Park Appreciation Project

Hundreds of Volunteers Help Enhance Dog Parks Across the Country on May 7

NASHVILLE, TN--(Marketwire - May 4, 2011) - The Nutro Company, a leading manufacturer of natural* pet food products, announces the second annual ROOM TO RUN™ Dog Park Appreciation Project to support local community dog parks and off-leash areas. On Saturday, May 7, volunteers from local communities, alongside associates from The Nutro Company, will roll up their sleeves to help refresh and rejuvenate local park spaces in 30 cities across the U.S. and Canada.

"We're excited to kick off the second annual event to make our parks even more beautiful and welcoming," said Anthony Quinn, Territory Manager for The Nutro Company who is leading the ROOM TO RUN™ Project in Detroit. "Last year, volunteers logged more than 1,500 hours to help make approximately 100 improvements at their local dog parks. We're looking forward to exceeding those efforts this year."

ROOM TO RUN™ projects will vary by location and park needs but may include painting fences, providing benches, picking up trash and landscaping. In an effort to focus on enhancements and to ensure pet safety, volunteers should consider leaving their four-legged pals at home and bring them to the park following the event.

The ROOM TO RUN™ Dog Park Appreciation Project is a one-day volunteer event to refresh dog parks, but everyone can help make their local dog park more enjoyable through small, but impactful changes:

  • Keep it clean. Always remember to pick up after your dog and yourself. Bring poop bags in case they are not provided by the park, avoid eating inside the park and dispose of garbage before you leave. Dogs are scavengers and will eat whatever is left behind!
  • Spruce it up. If you have a green thumb, why not share your talents with the community? Bring a watering can to help rejuvenate dry plant life or pick up weeds and dry leaves in and around the park to help keep it green and lively.
  • Supervise your dog. It's important to monitor your pet's interaction with other dogs at the park and to discourage your dog from eating plant life or urinating on any seating areas or water stations.
