NEW YORK, May 12, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- What role did social media really play in the upheavals in Egypt and the on-going conflict in Libya? How did young people embrace technology to create change? And what does this mean for U.S. foreign policy going forward? These are the questions more than 500 New York City public school students and educators will try to find answers to during a unique, one-day conference on the campus of Baruch College in Manhattan.
Participants in the Global Kids' Annual Youth Conference on Global Media and Technology will interact with recognized experts on these issues from the U.S. State Department, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and others. The conference will be led by Global Kids Student Leaders, who will share what they have learned during the year with other youth and introduce their peers to people and organizations who can help them implement their ideas and act on their concerns.
Additional topics to be addressed include: race and culture portrayal in the media; violence in the media; censorship; cyber bullying; media and gender; and internet and identity/privacy.
