FiberZone Releases New Capabilities for Test Automation Facilities

New Software Application Facilitates Disaster Recovery Testing

WASHINGTON, June 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- FiberZone Networks, the leading provider of Automated Fiber Management (AFM) solutions for datacenters and networks, today announced the release of new software capabilities on its market leading AFM product line. The new software application allows simulation of physical fiber break scenarios and the corresponding disaster recovery on networking, computing and storage platforms.

New high-speed storage and Ethernet equipment for cloud networks pose new challenges for automation solutions. Existing automation solutions cannot scale to support new high-speed Fibre Channel (FC) or Ethernet interfaces, and often require costly upgrades. FiberZone's AFM is the only solution that can support test automation at any existing or future port speed, running any protocol type, and over either Singlemode or Multimode fiber.

The new Temporary Disconnect software application allows test facilities operators to accurately simulate fiber breaks and their corresponding disaster recovery scenarios. Since FiberZone's AFM employs physical connect and disconnect, it accurately represents real-life disaster recovery scenarios. Unlike alternative solutions, the disconnect is physical, and does not require synchronization of laser shutdowns on inter-switch links to simulate a fiber break. Since no electrical processing is involved, the AFM delivers extremely low latency on all fiber connections.

"FiberZone's high-density fiber switch solution is future proof; it can serve any existing and future port speeds on any type of fiber. 8Gbps FC, 10Gigabit-Ethernet, iSCSI, FCoE, 16 Gbps FC, 40GE and 100GE are all supported today on FiberZone's AFM," said Joe Teixeira, VP Product Management for FiberZone Networks. "We developed the new temporary disconnect software application in response to our customers' requests, to allow them to benefit from unprecedented scalability and cost-effectiveness of their automation solutions," he added.

Testing of storage, computing and networking equipment requires a high level of automation. It streamlines testing cycles to increase productivity, allows offshoring of testing staff to reduce operating costs, and facilitates sharing of equipment among multiple disparate groups to reduce capital cost requirements.

FiberZone's AFM is a fully non-blocking 180x180 port fiber switch, providing the ability to remotely and automatically control fiber connectivity. Based on FiberZone's patented LOCTM technology, the AFM has been proven to offer the industry's best connection quality via an actual latched connection. Superb insertion/return loss performance and spectrum independence make the AFM an ideal solution for remotely managed fiber networks.

FiberZone's AFM has been deployed by world-class test facility operators. Contact your FiberZone sales representative or visit our website for a case study describing FiberZone's solution for automation of test facilities.
