Best Practice Case Studies in Paperless Invoicing and Digital Submittals to Be Presented at EDSymposium11

Panelists to Discuss Real-World Experience Leveraging Office and PIM Software to Streamline AEC Project Delivery Work Processes

MANCHESTER, NH--(Marketwire - Jun 9, 2011) - Newforma®, a project information management (PIM) software company connectingarchitecture, engineering and construction firms worldwide, today announced that best practices case studies in streamlining billing and digital submittals processes will be presented on June 10 at EDSymposium11, the Society for Design Administration's 41st Annual Educational Conference, in Charleston, SC.

At 1:30 p.m. EDT, June 10, during the session "Going Green: Paperless Invoicing and Digital Submittals," Newforma Executive Vice President of Strategy Bob Batcheler will moderate a panel discussion between Newforma Technical Consultant and former BNIM Director of Information Services Kelly Uehling, MCSE; Newforma Technical Consultant Aaron Kivett; and Crawford Architects Accounting Manager and former BNIM Accounting Coordinator Laura Bellis. The panelists will discuss how to use office and PIM software to electronically process invoices and submittals based on their experience leveraging the integration between Deltek® Vision® and Newforma® Project Center to create paperless billing and digital submittals processes.

Uehling and Bellis will share a best practice case study in paperless invoicing based on their experience at BNIM. Uehling was responsible for implementing and managing BNIM's virtual server environment and was the key technologist tasked with implementing Deltek Vision and Newforma Project Center. Bellis has over 13 years of experience in accounting, with more than five years assisting with and managing a full range of accounting functions for BNIM and Crawford Architects, from cost accounting to billing to tax preparation. Uehling and Bellis teamed up at BNIM to develop a paperless invoicing system for the firm resulting in a streamlined billing process that is faster and has reduced both cost and environmental impact for the firm.

Kivett will discuss how to better manage expected submittals and streamline the submittal approval process based on his extensive experience. After many years as director of information services with BNIM, Kivett followed his passion for leveraging technology to create better synergy between process and design and joined Newforma. Kivett will share his experience at BNIM, as well as the experience of Newforma customers, LMN Architects and Mackey Mitchell Architects, implementing an electronic submittals process.

As moderator, Batcheler lends a unique perspective based on his experience as a professional engineer and as an AEC software industry executive. Batcheler worked for many years as a professional engineer with leading firms such as Black & Veatch and Bechtel Power Corporation. He also offers deep experience in AEC technology having worked in a variety of roles at Autodesk and Softdesk.

"Removing paper from everyday work processes does more than promote sustainability," said Newforma Chief Executive Officer Ian Howell. "It can also remove steps from project delivery workflows, raising productivity and reducing opportunities for mistakes. This presentation focuses on two specific workflows to show how PIM software can be used to electronically review and issue invoices and process submittals. However, the bigger picture of a true PIM strategy is to streamline many more of the project delivery work processes architects, engineers and construction firms are tasked with every day. A comprehensive PIM solution also automates and compresses project delivery workflows for model-based design, contract administration, mobile access to project information and integrated project delivery, just to name a few."
