WASHINGTON, June 14, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Scholarship opportunities at all levels are helping students reduce the costs of a law school education at The John Marshall Law School.
Preparing for a career can be costly these days, but The John Marshall Law School in Chicago is making the investment easier with legal education scholarships that are helping students cover some or most of the expenses.
Although law school costs can make applicants think twice, "We encourage prospective students to enroll and prepare for their careers. We recognize that the cost of earning a JD degree can be a tremendous burden, so we are working with our incoming students to lighten that financial load," said William Powers, associate dean for Admission and Student Affairs.
"We make it a point to offer scholarships to students with top academic records and outstanding credentials to assist them as they prepare for outstanding careers as attorneys," he added.
Most of the scholarships can be renewed each semester or each year if students' strong academic records continue throughout their law school careers. The law school offers full scholarships to its best applicants. Distinguished Scholars receive tuition waivers and a living stipend; Edward T. Lee Scholars also are able to attend tuition-free.
"The financial aid offered to me as a scholarship recipient was not only very generous, it also provided a unique opportunity. Graduating without student loans allowed me to take on an exciting business venture which otherwise might not have been possible," said Keith Scala, a 2000 graduate of John Marshall who was a Distinguished Scholar.
Many students, like Distinguished Scholar Brittany Flaherty, choose The John Marshall Law School because of the scholarships available to them. "The scholarship allowed me to fully dedicate myself to my law school experience. It opened a number of doors for me, enabled me to study abroad and participate in networking opportunities, and at the same time allowed me to immerse myself in my studies," the 2010 graduate said.
Other scholarships provided by donors offer varying stipends and tuition waivers to help offset costs during law school, whether the student attends full- or part-time. Scholarship opportunities at all levels are helping students reduce the costs of a law school education at The John Marshall Law School.
"The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association Scholarship allowed me to cover the cost of my summer classes," explained Whitney Hutchinson, a 2010 graduate. "Because I didn't have to seek employment to pay tuition, this gift enabled me to continue my public service work with the Cook County Public Defender's Office, Felony Trials Division."
