CyberShift Trendline Survey Surprisingly Reveals Many Companies Still Rely on Paper and Postal for Time and Expense Reporting

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - Jul 5, 2011) - More than 20 percent of surveyed organizations still rely on manual paper time sheet reporting and nearly 30 percent of companies say that mobile employees complete expense reports via mail according to the 2011 CyberShift Trendline Survey, "Put Time on Your Side." Developed by CyberShift, a global provider of workforce management and expense management software and services, the survey polled more than 1,200 American Payroll Association (APA) members on employee timesheets, expenses and mobile workforce challenges and processes.

With more than three-fourths of respondents requiring half or more of their employees to report their time each pay period, 31 percent indicated that they capture time either manually through paper time sheets or using Excel spreadsheets. The survey results, which are included in the July issue of APA's PAYTECH magazine, also indicate that these outcomes are consistent for companies of all sizes and across all surveyed industries. Surprisingly, 31 percent of those companies reporting manual time and attendance capture have between 500 and 5,000 employees. And of those who reported that employees mail in expense reports while on the road, nearly 49 percent have between 500 and 5,000 employees.

These results come together with reports that capturing accurate pay, absence, leave and paid time off data in a timely manner remain payroll professionals' most challenging issues (47.5 percent).
