Leading Law Firm Selects Mitel's Freedom Architecture for Communication Anywhere

PHOENIX, July 6, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mitel® (Nasdaq:MITL), a leading provider of unified communications and collaboration (UCC) software solutions, today announced that leading upstate New York law firm, Hancock Estabrook, has selected Mitel's Freedom architecture to allow its attorneys the ability to work flexibly and effectively from any location. The solution provides seamless unified communications between the firm's 60+ lawyers and their clients. To read the Hancock Estabrook case study on the deployment, visit link.

After conducting a thorough assessment of competitive offerings, Hancock Estabrook ultimately selected the Mitel solution for a number of reasons. These included Mitel's comprehensive unified communications and collaboration features, the mobility capabilities, and the company's ability to effectively deliver an in-office communications experience anywhere.

"Since we are not a 9-5 shop, our lawyers need to be available for their clients anywhere, at anytime, but our old, outdated phone system was prohibiting us from accomplishing this," said, Mary Lou Haines, director of Information Technology for Hancock Estabrook. "With the Mitel solution, we can ensure our attorneys can provide clients with real-time service from any location."

As an early adopter of RIM's BlackBerry smartphones, it was necessary for the system that Hancock Estabrook ultimately chose to fully integrate with them, which was accomplished through Mitel's Dynamic Extension feature and the Unified Communicator Advanced application. By using the Mitel solution, the Firm was able to extend its communications to the BlackBerry, ensuring that there is much less need for mobile attorneys to take messages and do call backs. Another significant benefit the solution affords is presence awareness, so personnel now know who is calling, when their co-workers are on a call, and when they are free to take new calls. The Mitel solution also provides the flexibility for this to be delivered on other mobile platforms.

To effectively address the needs of Hancock Estabrook and allow for future scalability, the Mitel solution provides the following elements:

  • Mitel Communications Director extending Dynamic Extension and hotdesking capabilities to all users to ensure calls are delivered, regardless of the user's location. Users select up to eight devices in their personal ring group, regardless of type, so calls to a business number can ring on a mobile phone, home phone, remote office, or on any other device you choose, all at the same time;
  • Mitel Unified Communicator® (UC) Advanced providing users with a corporate directory that includes rich presence information, instant messaging, and visual voice mail, all within a single user portal with key features also accessible on any mobile device. This allows people and information to connect efficiently and effectively to drive responsiveness and agility in today's organizations;
  • Mitel Audio and Web conferencing integrates seamlessly with UC Advanced to provide access to advanced collaboration tools from any location;
  • Mitel Teleworker Solution provides seamless office communications capabilities when working from home or elsewhere.

"Hancock Estabrook approached our channel partner, TwinState, with a diverse set of new communications needs when they also decided to upgrade their existing infrastructure," said Stephen Beamish, Mitel's vice-president of Corporate Marketing and Strategic Alliances. "By deploying our comprehensive solution, they are now able to maintain the highest level of communications with their colleagues and clientele. Whether they are utilizing Dynamic Extension, UC Advanced, or Audio and Web Conferencing from Mitel, our solution will be able to scale to their needs as their business continues to grow in the future."
