KEMA Adds Strategic New Hires to Sustainable Use Consulting Practice

Leading Experts to Help Utility Clients Evaluate Energy Efficiency Programs and Gain Deeper Understanding of Customer Segments


BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - Jul 26, 2011) - KEMA, a leading authority in energy consulting, testing, and certification, has enhanced the expertise of its Sustainable Use consulting team with four new hires. These new hires enable KEMA to continue to provide market-leading support for energy efficiency program evaluation, load analysis, and utility customer research. They also allow KEMA to create more services to help utility and other industry stakeholders develop strategies for demand response programs, resource planning, and end-use products and services.

KEMA's new consulting experts include:

  • Luisa Freeman has more than 25 years of experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy technology and distributed generation program planning and evaluation for government and private industry clients in the United States and overseas. Previously, Freeman was the managing director and practice lead for Black & Veatch's demand-side management (DSM) practice and a managing consultant at PA Consulting Group. As president of Freeman and Associates for 11 years, she provided policy and sustainability consulting for international clients such as USAID, the United Nations, International Finance Corp., and The World Bank.

  • Shawn Intorcio brings over 20 years of experience in energy efficiency, load forecasting, fuel price forecasting, and integrated resource planning. Before joining KEMA, Intorcio served as a principal in the DSM practice for Black and Veatch, where she led evaluation studies and the development of fuel switching models, and investigated DSM potential and program design for a variety of studies. She was also with IHS Global Insight for 12 years, where she advanced through positions of increasing responsibility for the consulting division and eventually served as managing director of operations.

  • Joseph S. Lopes brings over 30 years of technical and management experience in mathematics, statistics, and database and software systems. He has an extensive background in project management, load research, measurement and verification (M&V) systems, demand response analysis, energy efficiency and technology studies, economic analysis, and rate/regulatory issues. Before joining KEMA, he consulted for U.S. and international utility and government clients through Lopes Consulting Services and Applied Energy Group, Inc. where he was one of the founding partners.

  • Jon Vencil has over 25 years of experience in developing regulatory frameworks; performing economic, financial, and operation analyses in energy efficiency; marketing; and conducting evaluations for clients across a broad range of industries. His background includes senior positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and San Diego Gas & Electric during the turbulent deregulation periods in both industries. Vencil was also owner and principal consultant of Market Logics, where he focused on reducing uncertainty and quantifying intangible assets.
