EXFO Introduces One-Way Delay Measurements to Its Comprehensive Portable Ethernet Backhaul Testing Solution

The Only Universal Portable Solution on the Market Using Any Available Reference Clock for Accurate One-Way Delay Measurement

QUEBEC CITY, Canada, Aug. 30, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) announced today the addition of one-way delay measurement to its portable Ethernet backhaul test offering. This addition to EXFO's already unique and innovative (patent-pending) bidirectional testing functionalities further strengthens its leadership in IP/Ethernet service validation. EXFO now offers the only portable Ethernet backhaul test units to perform true one-way delay measurement, using any of the available reference clock, making it the most reliable and easy-to-use test solution—no matter where in the world.

Integrated within EXFO's EtherSAM (ITU-T Y.1564) test methodology, this enriched testing capability allows for turning up and troubleshooting Ethernet backhaul and delay-sensitive applications faster and more accurately than ever. In fact, it enables network operators and service providers to perform simultaneous one-way measurements of all key performance indicators (KPI) included in service-level agreements (SLA).

In today's complex networks, millisecond delay fluctuations can cause service to be affected, or even interrupted. One-way latency measurement is critical in such a context, since it enables the accurate validation of delay-sensitive applications such as backhaul synchronization, transactional services or voice-over-IP (VoIP); it also acts as a quality of service (QoS) assurance alternative to traditional round-trip delay measurements, which often fail to identify performance issues in asymmetrical networks.

Housed either in the FTB-200 or FTB-500 field-testing platforms, EXFO's enhanced Power Blazer modules enable network operators and service providers to validate IP/Ethernet performance and service quality—with the added flexibility of a portable solution.

"Network operators worldwide are increasingly deploying real-time applications that are delay-sensitive, creating the need for more stringent SLAs. In turn, this makes measurements such as one-way delay much more important in ensuring that KPIs are met," said Etienne Gagnon, Vice-President of EXFO's Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. "EXFO's innovative one-way delay measurement is yet another feature that adds to a portable, simple test solution designed to effectively validate IP/Ethernet network performance and service quality."
