Sensinode Ltd. Accelerates the Internet of Things, Announces NanoService(TM) Reference Applications

Company Speeds Time-to-Market for Connected Home and Commercial Lighting Management Solutions Built on Standards-Based Embedded Web

OULU, FINLAND--(Marketwire - Sep 14, 2011) - Sensinode Ltd., a leading provider of software that powers the Internet of Things, today introduced two reference applications to speed development and deployment of machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions for Connected Home and Commercial Lighting management. Built to run on the Sensinode NanoService™ Platform, the software includes the core functionality needed for web applications that configure and manage low-power RF networks on private server, private cloud or public cloud environments.

Each application provides M2M developers and integrators with graphical web tools to quickly produce a standards-based solution that is secure, reliable and scalable. The applications may be used as is by NanoService Platform customers, and source code is provided to allow full flexibility in modifying the application to suit an organization's specific needs. The Connected Home application supports automated monitoring and control of electric and electronic devices for energy savings, safety and security. The Commercial Lighting application gives property managers and service providers the tools to control and optimize energy use of building-wide and neighborhood/regional outdoor lighting networks.

"While we expect that proliferation of networks of low-power wireless devices will enable new automated services, developers and integrators face a significant challenge in bringing these services to market," said Adam Gould, Chief Executive Officer of Sensinode. "In many organizations, configuration and ongoing management of wireless, web-connected networks of devices is not a core skill set, yet time to market is a critical need. Our NanoService Platform already speeds application development and makes the details of managing the network transparent to service providers and end-users. The reference applications further accelerate time to market by giving our customers a solid starting point for a specific Web application."

The Connected Home Reference Application allows automated management of intelligent electrical outlets, home electronics, appliances, and environmental controls. The application automatically detects wireless (and wired) network nodes and allows specific properties and control values for each detected device to be configured. All information is viewable in a home layout created with a floor plan tool. An events page then allows definition of trigger points and notifications (e-mail, SMS etc.). Use patterns and event histories unique to every device or groups of devices also can be mined for analytics. The Connected Home Reference Application will also support the upcoming ZigBee Alliance Smart Energy 2.0 standard.

Similar device identification, configuration and management scenarios apply to the Commercial Lighting reference application. Mapping of resources is typically on a larger visual scale, using the Google Maps™ engine as a resource for outdoor lighting configuration.

The reference applications are built on the Sensinode NanoService Platform. This flexible and highly-scalable environment provides a quick path to development of Web applications, while conforming to standards for Embedded Web services such as CoAP (Constrained Application Protocol) and compact messaging protocols including EXI (Efficient XML Interchange).

Designed to support M2M networks of up to 20 million nodes and up to 100 million daily transactions per cluster, the NanoService Platform offloads the complexity of Embedded Web service deployment. It supports the full range of low-power RF and cellular communication protocols, including all variations of IEEE 802.15.4 RF at both 2.4GHz and sub-GHz frequencies, as well as GSM cellular standards.

Sensinode will release the reference applications to launch customers in the third quarter of 2011. Interested organizations can learn more at the http://www.nanoservice.com.
