Myxer's BoomBox Internet Radio Report Points to User Demand for Free Music and Social Interaction While Listening

Survey of 1,188 Mobile Visitors to m.myxer.com Shows That 78 Percent Only Listen to Free Streaming Radio Services and 78 Percent Would Chat With Friends While Listening if They Could

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - Sep 27, 2011) - Myxer, a mobile technology company that operates the largest ad-supported mobile entertainment site in the U.S., today released the Myxer Q3 BoomBox Report focused on Internet radio revealing key findings in consumers' preferences for Internet radio listening. The report reinforces consumers' primary interest in free streaming music from the Internet, as well as a clear interest from consumers in having more social network integration and social features available concurrent with music listening. The report follows last week's announcement by Myxer of its own upcoming streaming music service, Myxer Social Radio.

Based on a survey of 1,188 mobile visitors to m.myxer.com, 36% responded that they regularly listen to more than one Internet radio service. Of that group, 26% said they listen regularly to 2-5 services, while 10% listen to more than 5 different Internet radio services on a regular basis.

Other key findings include the following:

Free Beats Fee

  • When we asked what is the most important feature for an Internet radio service 63% chose free music as their response.
  • When asked if they pay for an Internet radio subscription, 78% responded that they only listened to free services.
  • Of the total respondents, 11% said they paid for a Pandora subscription. 6% said they paid for Rhapsody.

Social Trends

  • 32% of respondents said being able to send a song or dedication to a friend was the social feature they want in an Internet radio service.
  • 22% chose posting what I'm listening to on Facebook or Twitter.
  • 21% chose listening to music with your friends as the desired social feature.

If they had the ability to chat with friends while listening,

  • 45% responded that they would chat all the time.
  • 33% said they would chat sometimes.

"There appears to be huge potential for growth in the consumption of mobile entertainment as smartphones, connected social networks, and free streaming music all converge," said Myk Willis, Myxer Founder and CEO. "The findings from the latest BoomBox Internet Radio Report affirm our strong belief that increasing adoption of streaming radio will substantially reshape the music entertainment landscape."
