School of Management UT Dallas Announces Event to Guide Execs Wrestling With Tech Issues

DALLAS, Sept. 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Boards of directors today fend off dangers on many fronts – from ethical lapses to technological missteps to just plain ignorance. Corporate leaders will be speaking to company officials on Thursday, at a daylong conference sponsored by the UT Dallas Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance (IECG), on topics such as how social media and other technological innovations are changing the corporate landscape (Philip Asmundson, with Deloitte) to strategic reasons behind AT&T's attempt to acquire T-Mobile (D. Wayne Watts, with AT&T) to the pervasiveness of fraud in corporations and what's not happening to correct it (Marianne Jennings, author of The Seven Signs of Ethical Collapse).

Other speakers at this 9th Annual IECG conference, "Technology: Opportunities and Risks in Corporate Governance," include Dan Burrus, a nationally known business strategist and speaker, who will talk about what directors should know about changing technology and its impact on operations. Burrus, author of Flash Foresight, will give the inaugural presentation in the IECG Max Hopper Speaker Series. Hopper, known as the "father of automation" in the travel industry, spent 20 years at AMR, the parent company of American Airlines, where he helped research and develop the SABRE reservations system. He died unexpectedly in 2010.

Two panel discussions, pulling together experts from across the corporate spectrum, will address these topics: "What should directors know or know to ask about technology?" and "What should we do about technology security, risk and opportunities?" Chief information officers from JCPenney, Sabre Holdings and Texas Instruments, as well as experts in cyber security at NASDAQ and in private financial and technical consulting will hold discussions and answer questions on these topics.

Space is still available at the conference, which will be held 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 29, at the School of Management, on the UT Dallas campus. Registration and information is at iecg.utdallas.edu or call 972-883-4925.
