BankAtlantic Sponsors Rhythms of Africa

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 13, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BankAtlantic is proud to sponsor "Rhythms of Africa", an extraordinary performance led by internationally renowned musician Willie Stewart. Stewart, lovingly known as the "Reggae Ambassador," spent 23 years as a percussionist with the international reggae band, Third World, and now calls Broward County his home. He facilitates workshops, performances and percussion sessions with children, and it is his passion to unite musicians, families and communities in the celebration of music.

Rhythms of Africa is a unique musical odyssey that combines the remarkable talent of over 20 professional musicians from around the world with 60 students from Lauderdale Lakes Educational Complex.

"It is a privilege to support this outstanding musical performance and to be part of the world created by Willie Stewart and his amazing vision," said Jarett Levan, CEO of BankAtlantic. "BankAtlantic is deeply committed to the arts and to giving children – and adults – the opportunity to experience culture in new and exciting ways. Rhythms of Africa provides a breathtaking occasion that brings creativity to new levels."

Rhythms of Africa offers two free performances at The Parker Playhouse on Saturday, October 15, at 2 pm and at 7 pm. Seventy-five seats at the afternoon show are reserved for the residents of the SOS Children's Village. SOS Children's Village works with disadvantaged families in order to prevent crisis that can lead to separation and to provide stable and consistent care to children who cannot remain in the family.

Rhythms of Africa is administered by the Embrace Music Foundation, whose mission is to preserve and fortify music education, appreciation and performances, and to integrate music back into general educational programming.

"Supporting this performance and the Embrace Music Foundation is an ideal fit for us," added Jarett Levan. "The Embrace Music Foundation looks to unite children, musicians, business and community leaders, instructors and artists to keep the arts alive by offering youth opportunities to craft their careers and lives. This is in perfect harmony with our objectives, as well."
