Global Student Entrepreneur Awards Selects BYU Alum as Finalist

Smart Phone App Developer Moves on to Global Finals

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 20, 2011) - EO Alchemy Conference - The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA), the premier global competition for undergraduate students who own and operate businesses while attending college or university, selected Scan Founder Garrett Gee the winner of the EO Alchemy Regional Competition. Gee will now move on to the GSEA Global Finals, a program of the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), to compete for $150,000 in cash and in-kind business services as well as a one-year mentorship with RedBox co-Founder Mike Delazzer.

Gee, whose Provo, Utah based company develops smart phone apps that allow their clients to create custom mobile experiences using social, lead generation and commerce technology, competed against five other regional semi-finalists hailing from Utah to Arizona and across California. Gee's presentation to EO member judges bested five other companies that included a power-washing company using custom water-recycling technology, an on-campus provider of healthy protein shakes and a home health-care matching service.

"It has been an incredible experience to present my business to and learn from such experienced entrepreneurs during this competition," said Garrett Gee, founder of Scan and 2011 EO Alchemy Regional Winner. "I am so honored to have been chosen to compete in the November Global Finals. Going to New York City for the competition will be a once in a lifetime experience for me and for Scan."

This year's Western Regional competition took place during the Entrepreneurs' Organization Alchemy Conference, a peer-to-peer symposium designed to bring entrepreneurs together to learn, share and elevate their minds and spirits though 17-minute presentations and breakout sessions across a variety of entrepreneurial topics. In this setting of mutual growth and entrepreneurial development, the six semi-finalists presented their businesses to a panel of entrepreneurial judges.

"As an EO member and long-time entrepreneur, I encounter new founders on regular basis, but I was so impressed by the talented students presenting at this year's Western Regional competition," said Rob Castaneda, EO member and founder of CustomWare. "Participating in and judging the GSEA is an inspiring experience that continues to reaffirm my belief in the strength of entrepreneurship and fuels my own drive to continue to grow my business."

At the Global Finals in November, Gee will compete against 30 semi-finalists, nominated from over 42 countries and vie for the title of Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year. To enter the 2011 Global Student Entrepreneur Awards Competition or to learn more about the program visit www.gsea.org.

About The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards
As the premier global competition for undergraduate student business owners, the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) inspire students to adopt entrepreneurial endeavors by bringing global visibility to student business owners who are innovative, profitable and socially responsible.
