Spiceworks Debuts New Social Sharing Tools for IT Professionals

Spiceworks Connect Unveiled at SpiceWorld 2011

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Oct 20, 2011) - Providing new ways for IT professionals, technology brands and publishers to better connect and share information from around the Web took center stage today at the SpiceWorld 2011 user conference. Spiceworks co-founder and CEO Scott Abel kicked off the sold-out event by outlining details of the company's new social sharing initiative -- Spiceworks Connect.

Spiceworks Connect allows the 1.7 million IT professionals in Spiceworks to follow and engage with people, technology brands and content from around the Web, and then share those experiences within Spiceworks. For technology vendors and publishers, Spiceworks Connect makes it easier to interact directly with the world's largest audience of small business IT pros, who collectively spent 350 million minutes in the Spiceworks social network in September alone. Any IT-related brand or publisher can now implement Spiceworks Connect by visiting: http://developers.spiceworks.com.

"Spiceworks Connect helps Eaton engage with new customers by connecting our people and products with the small and medium business IT pros who are interested in our expertise, products and services," said Kristin Somers, Marketing Communications Manager at Eaton Corporation. "By enabling Spiceworks social sharing, we can ensure our company is a part of the social activities and discussions related to the Eaton brand and respond with relevant information."

Some of the key social sharing features of Spiceworks Connect include:

  • Follow -- IT pros can follow their favorite technology brands or media sites and receive news, updates and popular discussion alerts directly in Spiceworks.
  • Share -- Allows IT pros to instantly share online content in Spiceworks via buttons that appear on web sites of IT vendors and media properties across the Web.
  • LogIn -- Coming soon, this feature will let users login to any Spiceworks Connect partner sites with their Spiceworks account credentials.

"When I want to share photos with friends, I use Facebook. When I want to share scripts with my colleagues to help them better manage their networks, I use Spiceworks," said Kelly Armitage, an IT Administrator at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. "It is the place where I connect with other IT professionals and technology vendors as part of my day job."

"Our goal is to provide better ways for Spiceworks IT pros to more easily share and connect with the information, companies and people they rely on to do their jobs faster and more efficiently," said Scott Abel, co-founder and CEO of Spiceworks. "Spiceworks Connect is a great example of how we're developing tools that expand the social experience for the entire IT community."

The Spiceworks social business network enables 'Social IT' by combining free network management, network monitoring and help desk software with a rapidly growing and active Facebook-like community of IT professionals.
