Virtual Computer Ranked Top Desktop Virtualization Provider With VMware, Microsoft, and Citrix

Independent Survey Conducted by Intel Affirms Virtual Computer a Top Desktop Virtualization Vendor

WESTFORD, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 7, 2011) - Virtual Computer, the market leader in intelligent desktop virtualization (IDV), was recently ranked one of the top vendors in the broader desktop virtualization sector along with VMware, Microsoft, and Citrix. The survey was completed by more than 200 IT professionals at companies with at least 100 employees, and was comprehensive across desktop virtualization technologies including application virtualization, server-hosted Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and client virtualization. Survey recipients were asked which software vendor they have chosen or are considering for implementing desktop virtualization.

"We are gratified to see the traction Virtual Computer is getting in the market. It's clear that our intelligent desktop virtualization solution is resonating with buyers," said Dan McCall, CEO of Virtual Computer. "We are now working with Lenovo and our growing channel of distributors and VARs to get this message to a wider audience and show the world that desktop virtualization doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg to gain the benefits of better management and security."

Virtual Computer was the only private company to make it into the top four providers. The others each have market capitalizations exceeding $10 billion, and while Virtual Computer is not as large, the strength of its intelligent desktop virtualization solution is propelling its rapid growth. At Virtual Computer's recent global partner summit, distributors and resellers around the world agreed that Virtual Computer NxTop is helping them implement desktop virtualization faster, at a lower cost, and with new capabilities that boost end user productivity.

The survey found that security (39%) and better management of desktops (38%) were the top two drivers for desktop virtualization with respondents. With these being the primary drivers, it's apparent why Virtual Computer was ranked so highly. Virtual Computer is the only solution in the world that combines a true type-1 client hypervisor for the greatest level of security and performance, along with a comprehensive centralized management system for fully controlling end user devices from a single console.

Cost was cited in the survey as the biggest hurdle for desktop virtualization. This is certainly the case for VDI, which is the predominant form of desktop virtualization promoted by most of the virtualization industry leaders today. The challenge with VDI is that it can cost more than $800,000 just for the infrastructure to support a 1,000 seat deployment. By leveraging the compute power on end point clients, Virtual Computer NxTop can support the same number of seats using infrastructure that costs less than $8,000. This significant cost savings is enabling companies to move forward rapidly and demonstrate immediate ROI.

Virtual Computer offers free trials of NxTop Enterprise at www.virtualcomputer.com. Because NxTop does not require the infrastructure that VDI requires, most organizations can get a virtualized desktop environment running in less than 90 minutes using their existing infrastructure.
