Boston Globe Names Fidelity Bank a Top Place to Work

Central Massachusetts Community Bank's Employees Tell Globe Researchers It's Tops

LEOMINSTER, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 8, 2011) - Fidelity Bank was named one of the Top Places to Work 2011 in Massachusetts by The Boston Globe. It's a first-time award for the community bank, which is the only bank and one of only two employers in Central Massachusetts to make this year's list.

"It's an honor that our employees said we're one of the best places to work," said Edward F. Manzi Jr., Chairman and CEO of Fidelity Bank. "And the honor reflects back on our employees -- they're the ones that make this company what it is. It's also reflective of our LifeDesign culture here. We have great people helping our clients get where they want to be."

John F. Merrill, President of Fidelity Bank, also expressed his pride in the bank's employees.

"When I decided to join a little more than a year ago, I sensed that there was something special about this bank," Merrill said. "The people who work here are really entrenched in the community, so they care a lot more about each other and our clients than other small or large banks. I give them all the credit for having us named a Top Place to Work."

The Globe shared its findings in a 44-page magazine included in Sunday's print edition, as well as on BostonGlobe.com and Boston.com. The report recognizes 100 employers in three size categories, based on the number of employees in Massachusetts. Fidelity Bank was ranked in the small-employer category (100 to 249 employees).

The Globe's research partner, WorkplaceDynamics, received completed surveys from 73,813 individuals at employers across Massachusetts. Each was asked to grade their organization's performance according to 24 statements, ranging from "New ideas are encouraged at this company" to "It's easy to tell my boss the truth." Additionally, all employers were asked to complete a 12-question survey on workplace practices.

To compile the ranking, each employer was measured according to six factors: direction from leadership; execution by senior managers; responsiveness of managers to employee concerns and needs; formal training and other opportunities to learn and grow; work conditions; and pay and benefits.
