Venyu Supports Local Entrepreneurs at Baton Rouge Startup Weekend

Leading Virtualization, Backup and Recovery Provider Sponsors 54-Hour Event, Donates IT Computing Resources to Weekend Entrepreneur Competition

BATON ROUGE, LA--(Marketwire - Nov 9, 2011) - Venyu, a leading provider of offsite business continuity, cloud backup and data center solutions, today announced its sponsorship of the Baton Rouge Startup Weekend, a three-day "boot camp" for entrepreneurs. Powered by the Kauffman Foundation, the 54-hour event brings together Baton Rouge-based developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts to share ideas, form teams, build exciting new products and launch new companies. As a sponsor of the competition, Venyu will donate resources on its recently launched virtualization platform, VenyuCloud, for the teams to develop their ideas over the course of the weekend. Further, the winner of Baton Rouge Startup Weekend will receive server resources on VenyuCloud for a full year to get their idea off the ground.

"Venyu is proud to be a sponsor of this important three-day event that encourages the spirit of entrepreneurship," said Matt Wallace, VP of Marketing for Venyu. "Venyu is a longtime supporter of the Louisiana entrepreneur community, and we are honored to provide the computing resources to help these aspiring entrepreneurs transform their ideas. We can't wait to see what these teams bring to the competition. It promises to be an exciting weekend."

The Baton Rouge Startup Weekend is one of dozens of Startup Weekend events happening in cities around the world November 11-13, 2011. Startup Weekend was created to attract the community's best makers and "do-ers." By spending a weekend working to build scalable companies that solve real-world problems, competitors have the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships and possibly walk away with a job or even an investor. Held at the Lyceum in Baton Rouge, the three-day competition will give local entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a team of judges with experience in the enterprise world. Mentors from local businesses will also be on hand to offer advice to the teams. Venyu will deliver to each team a high-performance, Ubuntu-based LAMP stack with Ruby on Rails development packages installed.

"Venyu's support of Startup Weekend will supercharge this weekend's event, providing the resources our top tech entrepreneurs will need to build and launch a tech venture in the space of a weekend," said Wendy Overton, co-organizer of the Baton Rouge Startup Weekend. "Having the support of local businesses adds further credibility to our event and makes it possible for the competing entrepreneurs to take their concepts into reality."
