DHL Express U.S. Prepared for 2011 Peak Holiday Season

  • Strengthened network, new resources for customers enhance holiday shipping experience

PLANTATION, Fla., Nov. 17, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DHL Express, the world's leading international express shipping provider, enters this year's peak season with significant operational enhancements and workforce capacity already in place to meet the double digit holiday shipment growth typically experienced this time of year. Additions include new flights, an expanded network, enhanced shipping tools and a workforce of Certified International Specialists.

DHL Express U.S. has seen solid customer shipment growth throughout 2011, markedly along trade lanes between the U.S.and Asia, the Middle East, Australia and Latin America. In response to recent shipment increases, as well as its estimated holiday growth, DHL has expanded capacity and boosted transit times by:

  • Adding new flights such as the 777 freighters along growing trade lanes between the Americas, Asia and the Middle East, including a recent 777 flight in Bangalore to strengthen the U.S.–India connection
  • Adding two efficient Boeing 747-400 freighter aircrafts to connect with major transpacific markets even more quickly and dependably
  • Completing a $22 million expansion of its U.S.hub facility at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport for nine new aircraft gates, helping connect customer shipments to points in Asia, Europe and the Americas
  • Ramping up facilities and network capabilities across the country in anticipation of the higher volume, to include at least 100 additional pickup and delivery routes; along with placing spare aircraft on stand-by.
  • Launching a revamped website, DHL-USA.com, with greater functionality; more robust content and easier online shipping capabilities. Leading-edge features were also introduced, including Paperless Clearance, which enables customers to electronically transmit the most frequently used regulatory documents to Customs – eliminating the need to print and manually attach them to shipments.

"With so many significant enhancements now in place, DHL is the clear choice for businesses that want a hassle free, reliable way of reaching the global marketplace, as well as for consumers who wish to send gifts and packages to family and friends abroad," said Ian Clough, CEO of DHL Express U.S.

Peak season is represented as the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas when holiday gift volume is at its highest. Some key dates for DHL Express U.S.:

  • Monday, Nov. 28: Peak delivery day, when more international packages are delivered in the U.S. than any other day of the year.
  • Monday, Dec. 12: Peak volume day, when more pickups and deliveries occur in the U.S. than any other day of the year.
