Where:

The Super Motel, 6625 S King Dr., Chicago, (across the street from New Beginnings Church)

Why:

With the arrival of the holiday season, Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church of Chicago realizes even more the exponential impact senseless violence has on families and communities.  Pastor Brooks has been atop the motel across from his church on the 6600 S. block King Dr. for 26 days now. While his ultimate mission is to end violence and the crippling effects it has on the community, he desires to bring remembrance to those who have already been lost.

Putting a face to the epidemic of violence that the Woodlawn and Englewood communities have experienced, the tree lighting ceremony aims to humanize this platform and be a consolation to those families who have lost loved ones this year.

Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church of Chicago has been camping out in a tent of the roof of the former Super Motel at 6625 S King Dr for 24 days, and will continue his stay throughout the winter if need be.  He is determined to raise the $450,000 needed to purchase and demolish this building that once was a haven for prostitution, drug addicts, drug dealing and more. Through the initiative ProjectHood (www.projecthood.org) Pastor Brooks is collecting donations nationwide to Help Others Obtain their Destiny H.O.O.D.

To date, projecthood.org has raised approximately $60,000 dollars toward the cause.
