Singapore Luxury Hotel Welcomes New Executive Chef

SINGAPORE--(Marketwire - Feb 3, 2012) - Mr. Kevin Thomson joined Singapore Marriott Hotel in December 2011 as Executive Chef.

The accomplished British chef heads a kitchen team of 132, overseeing the Singapore luxury hotel's five restaurants and lounges as well as in-room dining and MICE functions. He is responsible for all menu development and food & beverage quality control.

Chef Thomson fell under the spell of cooking from a very early age and has since honed his passion, never settling for second best.

He brings with him over 20 years experience having started his career at the renowned Dukes Hotel in London and has subsequently worked for many of the hospitality industry's most reputable brands including Four Seasons, Banyan Tree, Hilton and Renaissance. Most recently he was Executive Chef at Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel.

Of his many culinary accomplishments, Thomson was awarded 1 Chefs Heads in the Melbourne Good Food Guide in 2001, and 2 Chefs Heads the following year.

His vision now is to put the Singapore 5 star hotel firmly on the F&B map establishing it as the city's hottest spot for casual fine dining.

Thomson believes in taking cooking back to basics and follows his own personal mantra throughout -- "Simply Fresh," where high quality ingredients play an integral role to cooking.

A fan of the onion, which he deems the pillar of most cuisines, Chef Thomson is always "hands-on" when cooking and stands by the Irish proverb "Laughter is brightest, where the food is served best."

Though his taste for cuisine is varied, his personal favourite item on the menu at Marriott Cafe is the Braised beef short ribs with carrot puree.

When not in the kitchen, Thomson can be found with his wife and friends exploring Singapore, dining out, playing pool and reading.
