Concert Series That Recruits VA Volunteers Expected to Draw Thousands Across the U.S.

WINCHESTER, Calif., Feb. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- National nonprofit organization Help Hospitalized Veterans (HHV) is teaming up with 16 Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and offering complimentary ticket admission to Valentines for Veterans Concerts across the country.

The all-star artist lineup includes country music stars Lorrie Morgan, Aaron Tippin and Lee Greenwood, R &B legends The Chi-Lites, The Spinners, The Platters, The Dramatics and The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards, and pop music greats The Grass Roots, B.J. Thomas and Gary Lewis and the Playboys.

The Concerts are part of VA's National Salute to Veteran Patients and are designed to show appreciation to America's veterans, increase awareness of local VA medical centers and encourage citizens to become volunteers at VA medical facilities. The Concert events help draw attention to the ongoing health issues facing returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan and to show respect to America's Gold Star families. Last year, over 25,000 Americans attended the Valentines for Veterans Concerts, and since the Concert initiative began in 2008, over 1,000 people signed up to serve as new volunteers for VA.

Funding for the Concerts is provided by HHV along with dozens of local sponsors in each community. "Because of the sacrifices of our veterans, HHV believes the price to attend a concert has already been paid. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, HHV is able to offer the community complementary admission to the Concerts," said HHV President and CEO Mike Lynch.

Since 1971, HHV has donated over 27 million arts and crafts kits to our nations' VA and military hospitals worldwide and also sponsors many of VA's annual national rehabilitation events.
