MIRAMAR, Fla., Feb. 9, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spirit Airlines (Nasdaq:SAVE) is doubling the number of cities it serves from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport from three to six. Today, the airline starts daily non-stop service from DFW to Atlanta, New York LaGuardia and Orlando.
Spirit also today announced that it will begin four weekly flights between DFW and Tampa starting May 4, 2012.
In addition, Spirit has filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin service between DFW and Toluca/Mexico City. Schedules and fares will be announced upon receipt of necessary governmental approval.
By this spring, Spirit will more than triple the number of cities it serves from DFW since it started offering its ultra low fares to the Metroplex a year ago. In addition to Tampa, Spirit recently announced that it will begin service between DFW and Myrtle Beach with three non-stop flights per week starting on May 3, 2012. Daily non-stop service from DFW to Boston and Phoenix-Mesa starts on March 22, 2012.
To celebrate, Spirit is offering $28.79 fares, which is a $9.00 base fare plus taxes and fees,* between DFW and the new cities of Atlanta and Tampa (each way based on roundtrip purchase) available today and tomorrow at www.spirit.com. In addition, Spirit is offering $38.79 fares, which is a $19.00 base fare plus taxes and fees,* between DFW and New York LaGuardia, and $48.79 fares, which is a $29 base fare plus taxes and fees,* between DFW and Orlando.
