Palisade Systems Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Guy G. Helmer, to Deliver Track Session on Web Server Data Breaches at RSA Conference 2012

Leading Data Security Engineer to Discuss Common Web Server Vulnerabilities and Steps to Prevent Major Data Breaches on February 29th at 1 pm PST

DES MOINES, Iowa, Feb. 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Guy G. Helmer, chief technology officer for Palisade Systems, a leader in the Data Security and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) markets, will be a featured track session speaker at the RSA Conference 2012 on Wednesday, February 29. Dr. Helmer will address the information security audience with his presentation "Data Breaches and Web Servers: The Giant Sucking Sound." The RSA Conference will gather security leaders from around the world for a five-day convention from February 27 to March 2 in San Francisco, CA.

During his presentation, Helmer will discuss the major ways websites are compromised and provide easy-to-follow steps to allow for quick fixes in the short term. "I understand the bureaucracy larger organizations can experience when initiating major security updates," said Helmer. "There can be multiple levels of authority and numerous processes required before more extensive data security initiatives can be put into place. I will highlight some simple steps to alleviate common data security vulnerabilities in the short term."

There is no shortage of major data breaches for Helmer to provide as examples via web servers. Epsilon, Citigroup, eHarmony, Sony and the State of Texas are just of few of the names in the news as a result of web data exposures. "I'm extremely concerned about the volume and rate with which web servers are losing data," said Helmer. "There needs to be a sense of urgency. Common breaches are happening and there are preventative actions companies can implement rather than dealing with painful breaches after they occur."
