"Run with the Cops, not from Them!" Charity Run to Support the For a Day Foundation of Detroit

Annual Community Event to Benefit Local Children

DETROIT, MI--(Marketwire - Mar 6, 2012) - The For a Day Foundation, Detroit Chapter, is hosting their 3rd annual charity run titled, "Run with the Cops, not from Them!" on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 9:30 AM on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. The event will raise funds for the foundation's programs designed to raise the self esteem of children in the Metro Detroit area affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

The cost is $25 for the 5k and 10k timing chip race and $20 for the 1-mile Fun Run/Walk. All supporters can register at www.detroitqfad.com. Sponsorships and donations of any amount are also available.

Attendees of the event are encouraged to bring the whole family. Detroit Police Chief Ralph L. Godbee, Jr. (tentatively) is scheduled to kick start the event with special appearances from Detroit Police Departments Special Response Team, Bomb Squad, Dive Team, and Mounted Unit. Last year, 500 registered participants raced during a beautiful day and it is hopeful that registrations will double this year. All participants will receive a t-shirt and water/snacks after the race.

The For a Day Foundation is a national non-profit 501 (C) 3 (formerly known as Queen/Hero for a Day) organization that partners with hospitals to host events for pediatric patients and their families. The organization hosts arts and crafts, tea parties, and events in the hospital. The foundation has worked in Detroit hospitals such as Royal Oak Beaumont, St. John Hospital, Children's Hospital of Michigan and Mott's Children's Hospital with visits to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

Sergeants Jeremy James and Carol Almerati, of the Detroit Police Department, have both been volunteers for over four years, and have played an integral part in planning the upcoming event.

"It's incredible to see so many people from around southeast Michigan and beyond to come together and support the For a Day Foundation's efforts in bringing smiles and good memories to kids with life threatening illness," says James.
