Acquia Launches the Acquia Cloud API

Developers Can Now Create Applications and Deploy Solutions on Acquia Cloud Within Minutes

DENVER, CO--(Marketwire - Mar 20, 2012) - DRUPALCON -- Acquia, the enterprise guide to Drupal, today announced the release of the Acquia Cloud API. The Cloud API allows developers to extend, enhance and customize Acquia Cloud's capabilities including developer workflow, site management, and provisioning.

The Cloud API empowers the entire Drupal ecosystem, developers and businesses alike, to save time and accelerate deployment by integrating Acquia Cloud tools into their properties. Developers can now automate testing, data sanitization and other operations to ensure data and code quality is consistent across environments. As a result, Acquia is able to provide a platform for professional developers, distribution builders, and web design agencies to rapidly roll out new websites and businesses.

The release of the Acquia Cloud API now empowers Drupal developers to:

  • Streamline site building -- Developers can tightly integrate Acquia Cloud developer tools into their own site(s), application or non-Acquia hosting environment to take advantage of Acquia's extensive continuous integration tooling and management services.
  • Automate custom operations -- Through Cloud Hooks, Acquia Cloud performs custom scripts and commands triggered on workflow actions; for example, sanitizing production databases, or running pre-defined tests every time code is deployed from Dev to Stage.
  • Accelerate time-to-deployment -- Provision new sites programmatically on Acquia Cloud from within any Drupal distribution or by using scripting interfaces, such as a Drush Make file.

"Phase2's expertise lies in designing and developing great Drupal experiences," said Frank Febbraro, chief technology officer for Phase2. "We're excited about how the Cloud API will open up opportunities to deploy Phase2 clients' sites and products into Acquia's Cloud infrastructure and integrate with their developer tools. The goal is to give our customers a great experience, and we see Acquia's Cloud API as a promising new way to deliver that to them."

The Acquia Cloud API is a pivotal enhancement to Acquia's Cloud infrastructure. Acquia Cloud is a Drupal-tuned Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) currently hosting hundreds of Drupal sites, serving more than five billion http requests and one billion page views per month.

"By launching the Acquia Cloud API, Acquia now offers the Drupal developer and partner community powerful tools to build and operate Drupal sites," said Dries Buytaert, co-founder and chief technology officer, Acquia. "In addition, we're excited to see the community use the Cloud API to build innovative tools and services on top of Acquia Cloud."

The Acquia Cloud API is currently available in beta for all Acquia Cloud customers on request, with general availability expected in April 2012.

Acquia will be demonstrating the Cloud API at Drupalcon Denver, which will be held at the Colorado Convention Center, March 19-23, 2012.
