Puppet Labs Announces Puppet Enterprise 2.5

Latest Version Delivers Windows Support, Integrates With Puppet Forge Marketplace, and Enables Big Data for Infrastructure

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - Mar 28, 2012) - Puppet Labs, the leading provider of IT automation software for system administrators, today announced the availability of Puppet Enterprise 2.5. Puppet Enterprise 2.5 enables system administrators to automate management of heterogeneous IT environments of Windows, Linux, and Unix systems, takes advantage of over 300 ready-to-use configurations in the Puppet Forge online marketplace, and provides rich data sets and tools for users to gain unique insights into infrastructure changes.

"Puppet Enterprise 2.5 demonstrates our continued focus on system administrators, providing them with tools that are both powerful and easy-to-use," said Luke Kanies, CEO of Puppet Labs. "Our customers' successes with IT automation, from those with two servers on-premise to others with over 50,000 servers in the cloud, underscore the disruptive value our solutions provide."

Puppet Enterprise's unique approach to IT automation uses a declarative, model-based technology which enables system administrators to define reusable configurations of services and applications. Puppet Enterprise then automatically creates and enforces these definitions across any deployment environment, from on-premise to the cloud, and across any operating system, from Windows to Unix to Linux. By automating the management of their infrastructure with Puppet Enterprise, a typical IT organization will see a 10x boost in productivity, a 75% reduction in applications' time-to-production, and a significant reduction in service outages.

Key New Capabilities In Puppet Enterprise 2.5

  • Windows. With the addition of Windows support, Puppet Enterprise now has the most comprehensive coverage of enterprise IT platforms, boosting system administrators' productivity by enabling them to automate the management of heterogeneous IT environments with a single solution.
  • Puppet Forge. Puppet Enterprise 2.5's integration with Puppet Forge grants system administrators access to more than 300 ready-to-use, freely downloadable configurations, allowing them to solve problems faster using community-contributed solutions which encapsulate automation best practices. For example, using Puppet Enterprise 2.5's integration with Puppet Forge, a system administrator can find and download a configuration module for MySQL and in minutes, set-up fully-configured MySQL databases on multiple servers.
  • Big Data for Infrastructure. Puppet Enterprise 2.5 provides system administrators with the Puppet Data Library and access to comprehensive data on the who, what, where, when, and why of infrastructure changes. These capabilities give them pro-active control over infrastructure change management, automated reports for IT compliance audits, and insights into how infrastructure changes impact service levels. Moreover, innovative companies like Boundary and Nodeable have built solutions leveraging this data to give system administrators additional tools for managing their environments.
