Transcend Computing Announces Company Formation

Startup Exits Stealth, Launches StackStudio and StackPlace, Making it Easy for Developers to Create and Share Amazon-Compatible Application Architectures

AUSTIN, Texas, April 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Transcend Computing, an innovator in Amazon Compatible Environments (ACE) for public, private and hybrid cloud computing, today announced that it has exited stealth-mode with the beta launch of StackStudio and StackPlace, which are available now as a web-based service. Transcend Computing was formed to help developers, enterprises and managed service providers to capitalize on the momentum of Amazon Web Services.

StackStudio is a visual, drag-and-drop online development environment for assembling multi-tier application topologies using the Amazon CloudFormation format. Application stacks assembled with StackStudio are ready to run on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on other public and private ACE platforms.

These stacks can then be shared with other developers in StackPlace, which was also launched today as an open social architecture community sponsored by Transcend Computing. StackPlace allows developers to create, contribute, consume and collaborate on ACE-compatible application topologies.

"We believe that Amazon Web Services has defined the de facto approach to cloud computing, which will endure as the industry standard for public, private and hybrid clouds," said Jeff Schneider, founder of Transcend Computing. "At the heart of this standard is CloudFormation, which is a model-driven example for how complex application architectures should be described and managed."

Amazon Compatible Environments (ACE) are public and private cloud platforms that embrace the Amazon APIs as the basis for application portability. Uniform APIs ensure that applications can move seamlessly across cloud platforms to enable true hybrid cloud use cases. This helps enterprises to drive down costs, achieve greater agility, and it enables a competitive ecosystem of cloud providers to deliver unique value through differentiated features and service levels.

According to Schneider: "Transcend can help catalyze adoption of the ACE environments by making it easy to create and share Amazon-compatible stacks. In doing so, the Amazon APIs become the lingua franca for application portability between public and private cloud environments, which helps both consumers and providers of public and private cloud services by creating a level playing field."

Available today, StackStudio is offered in both free and paid editions. StackPlace is open and free of charge for both contributors and consumers of ACE stacks.

By Q312, Transcend Computing expects to launch other ACE offerings that enable managed service providers to implement their own ACE-compatible platforms to capitalize on the momentum of the CloudFormation format.
