In 2011, an estimated 177,800 Canadians were diagnosed with cancer. April 27th is Daffodil Day and the Canadian Cancer Society is urging Canadians to show their support by wearing a daffodil pin on that day and throughout April leading up to it.
"All Canadians have had cancer impact their lives 3/4 either they've had it themselves or know someone who has," says Martin Kabat, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society Ontario Division. "In addition to being a symbol of strength, courage and life, the daffodil pin is a mark of solidarity. Wearing it shows those affected by cancer that they are not alone."
Daffodil pins are available by donation throughout the month of April at participating Ontario automotive dealers, CAA & CAA Care Care Centre, Curves, First Choice Haircutters, Laura, LifeLabs, Mandarin Restaurant, Pharmasave and Wireless Wave/TBooth wireless locations. Visit fightback.ca to search for a pin location near you.
Kabat adds that the funds raised during Daffodil Month help the Canadian Cancer Society prevent cancer, fund research to outsmart cancer and empower, inform, support and improve the lives of Canadians living with cancer.
There are many ways to join the fight this April. Whether you donate, volunteer, spread the word or wear the daffodil pin 3/4 awareness is the key. Show support and make a difference in your own way 3/4 no matter how big or small.
Local Canadian Cancer Society representatives are available for interviews to discuss:
- The meaning behind the daffodil pin
- How Ontarians can get involved and show support
- Local events and stories about local volunteers
- Local services and programs provided to people living with cancer
