ORBIT Wins Second Major Contract for Earth Observation Systems in the Growing Russian Market

Scientific Research Institute of the Precision Instruments Awards Contract to ORBIT for Several Earth Observation Ground Stations

NETANYA, Israel, April 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Orbit Communication Systems, ltd. a subsidiary of ORBIT Technologies Ltd. (TASE:ORBI), a provider of mission-critical connectivity solutions in a variety of markets, including satellite communications, tracking and telemetry, and communications management systems, today announced that it has been selected by Scientific Research Institute of the Precision Instruments, a member of the Roscosmos (Russian Federal Space Agency), to supply several Earth Observation systems for tracking of LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites in a deal estimated at $US1,500,000.

The first phase of the project consists of deployment of several systems across Russia in a way that ensures full coverage of LEO satellites orbiting over the country. Following the successful completion of this phase, ORBIT expects to receive follow-up orders for additional complementary systems to support customer's additional needs.

ORBIT's solution is based on its AL-4034 high-performance positioning system with tilt correction. Using a 5m antenna, the AL-4034 is ideal for meeting the high bandwidth requirements of customers such as Scientific Research Institute of the Precision Instruments who need to download data from LEO satellites with high resolution payloads. Tilt correction enables the system to overcome key-holes at the zenith. In addition, the AL-4034 is specifically designed to operate in very low temperatures (as low as -40°C), as required for use in Russia's extreme climate and environmental conditions.

"We are proud that Scientific Research Institute of the Precision Instruments have selected ORBIT as a key supplier for their comprehensive earth observation solution," stated Ofer Greenberger, CEO of ORBIT Technologies Ltd. "Our recent earth observation deals with major Russian customers are a testament to the substantial efforts our team is making in this burgeoning market, as well as other regions in Europe."
